READMAG.TXT 2/95 MagSS.SCR is a Windows screen saver that displays a full-screen image and an old-fashioned hand magnifier. MagSS can be configured to capture the screen or load your favorite bitmap. To show image details, the program overlays a shiny brass magnifier with a rosewood handle. The magnifier moves randomly on its own, but you can press and hold down a mouse button to drag it to the image areas you want to examine. When you are done, just press any keyboard key. This application requires Windows 3.1, a VGA or Super VGA display, and the Visual Basic runtime library VBRUN300.DLL located in your Windows\System Directory. VBRUN300.DLL is available free on CompuServe and many other on-line services. MagSS is copyrighted freeware. Use, enjoy, distribute! Move the file MagSS.SCR into your Windows directory. Ensure that there is a copy of VBRUN300.DLL in the Windows\System directory. To run MagSS: 1. Open the Windows Control Panel group and start the Desktop application. Select MagSS in the Screen Saver Name drop down list. 2. Click Setup to display the MagSS setup dialog box. Choose the options you prefer. Magnifier Mode: "Lone Magnifier" for a single animated magnifier, "Magnifier Trails" for many magnifiers in rows. Trails mode constantly modifies the display, so use it if your screen actually needs saving. Magnifier Speed: "Slow", "Medium" or "Fast" animation. You may prefer slower animation speeds when using higher power magnification to see image details as they move by. Magnifier Power: "2X", "3X", or "5X" magnification. Background: "Screen" causes MagSS to take a snapshot of the full screen for display when the program starts. "Bitmap" allows you to select a bitmap with the File button. The selected bitmap will be stretched (or shrunk) to full screen size and displayed with the magnifier each time the program is launched. Click OK to save your configuration choices. Configuration is saved in the [MagSS] section of your WIN.INI file. 3. Click the Screen Saver Test button to view your selected choices. Use the mouse with button down to move the magnifier manually. Press any keyboard key to terminated the MagSS program. 4. Select a screen saver start delay time with the Delay arrow buttons. 5. When you are done with configuration, click the Desktop OK button. MagSS should now run in the way you specified after your PC has been idle for sufficient delay time.
